What is TrialNet Screening

If someone in your family has type 1 diabetes, we urge you to get the rest of your family screened for free. A simple blood test could detect an increased risk for type 1 diabetes years before symptoms appear. This test is available to eligible family members of people with type 1 diabetes through an international research effort led by the National Institutes of Health.
Important.
Screening is the first step in fighting type 1 diabetes. If you have a family member with type 1 diabetes, you are fifteen times more likely to develop type 1 diabetes yourself. Being tested is important because if you are at increased risk, you may be eligible to participate in clinical trials that are testing ways to prevent and delay type 1 diabetes.
